Responsible investment, or investment practices and strategies that consider environmental and societal outcomes, has become an important area of focus for Latin America’s private capital industry. LAVCA’s work in this area addresses both Environmental, Social and Governance practices by traditional private capital investors (ESG), as well as impact funds that seek a balance of positive social, environmental, and financial returns. Global LPs are an important driver of change and are key partners to LAVCA’s Responsible Investment agenda.

Globally, investors are changing the way they interact with portfolio companies, LPs, and local communities, developing best practices for maximum impact. LAVCA works to support the implementation of environment, social and governance (ESG) practices across the region as this has become increasingly important for institutional investors.
Increasingly private equity and venture capital managers active in Latin America are raising dedicated impact funds to manage alongside traditional PE/VC structures. Others are co-investing with impact fund managers in IT startups that address financial inclusion, healthcare, agriculture, and education. Using LAVCA industry data and data collected by LAVCA and the Aspen Network of Development Entrepreneurs (ANDE) for The Impact Investing Landscape in Latin America, LAVCA published a breakout report on Impact+Tech/VC Investing.
