Accel Partners Leads US$21m Investment in Cornershop to Expand Business in Mexico (en español)

Accel Partners led a US$21m investment Series B in Cornershop, a Mexican-Chilean grocery delivery startup, to expand services in nine new cities in Mexico. Other participants in the investment include Creandum, Jackson Square Ventures, and ALLVP.

(Forbes Mexico) Cornershop, la startup chilena-mexicana de entregas de supermercado on-demand, anunció la inversión de 21 millones de dólares (mdd) a través de una ronda de inversiones “Serie B” liderada por Accel Partners, uno de los principales fondos de Silicon Valley.

Con la participación adicional de los fondos Creandum y Jackson Square Ventures, así como el fondo mexicano ALL VP, Cornershop planea fortalecer sus operaciones actuales y lanzar su servicio en nuevas ciudades de México.

“El uso regular y consistente de la aplicación es clave para construir un negocio duradero en el mercado on-demand y estamos muy contentos de ver que un gran número de clientes regresan semana tras semana”, comentó el CEO y cofundador Oskar Hjertonsson.

Cornershop ha formado alianzas con Chedraui Selecto y HEB México para ofrecer sus productos entregados a precios competitivos.

“Todos los procesos de nuestra operación están basados en software desarrollado por nuestro equipo de ingeniería; siendo esto vital para escalar con calidad. Un ejemplo de esto es como usamos Machine Learning en varios procesos críticos, lo que nos ha permitido ser mucho más certeros en nuestras estimaciones. Con esta inversión esperamos fortalecer aún más al equipo y atraer al mejor talento de la región”, dijo Daniel Undurraga, cofundador y jefe de Tecnología (CTO).

En noviembre de 2016, con un año y medio en funcionamiento, los creadores de Cornnershop levantaron una ronda de inversión de casi 7 mdd.

“Hemos avanzado mucho con la tecnología detrás de las operaciones y hemos aprendido a manejar un volumen de pedidos muchísimo mayor (10 veces mayor) al que teníamos el año pasado. También hemos mejorado mucho la usabilidad de nuestra aplicación, bajando los tiempos de entrega a 30 minutos o menos, agregamos nuevas tiendas y tenemos miles de productos en nuestros catálogos de cada tienda”, añadió Undurraga.

Cornershop fue parte de las 30 promesas de negocios Forbes, las cuales van desde el e-commerce y el ofrecimiento de crédito, hasta el transporte en zonas petroleras.

Arrojo, visión social y tenacidad para encontrar oportunidades nuevas en un entorno económico complicado caracterizan a Cornershop y a las empresas que estuvieron 30 promesas de negocios Forbes.

En cinco años esta empresa quiere ser el supermercado online más grande en Latinoamérica. Cornershop es una aplicación a través de la cual se pueden solicitar productos de varios supermercados. Una persona es la responsable de hacer las compras y el pedido se entrega en 90 minutos.

La idea para el desarrollo de este proyecto surgió cuando Daniel estaba en la ciudad de San Francisco, California porque ahí ya existían servicios similares.
