(The Carlyle Group) June 28, 2011 – Global alternative asset manager The Carlyle Group announced that Luiz Antonio Viana has joined the firm as a Senior Advisor to the South America Buyout team. Mr. Viana will use his 35 years of executive, operational and investment experience to help Carlyle source investment opportunities, manage current investments and advise portfolio company management.

In his new role, Mr. Viana will advise on a range of operational, financing and investment activities. He will counsel Carlyle’s investment professionals on new business initiatives and investment strategy, as well as assist in the recruitment of new employees, consultants and directors for the boards of Carlyle portfolio companies. Mr. Viana is also expected to serve on the Board of Directors of Carlyle’s South American portfolio companies.
Mr. Viana is a Board Advisor of Localfrio and serves on the Board of the Museum of Modern Arts. He is also a Board Member of Iochpe-Maxion, Brazil’s largest manufacturer of wheels and frames for commercial vehicles, railway freight cars and castings. His 35 years of experience include serving as CEO at Grupo Pao de Acucar, Petrobras Distribuidora – BR, Net Servicos and Makro Atacadista.
Mr. Viana is a graduate of the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro with a postgraduate degree from the Catholic University of Rio and the London Business School.
