Cate Ambrose, President and Executive Director

Cate Ambrose

Cate Ambrose is President and Executive Director of the Latin American Private Equity & Venture Capital Association (LAVCA). She speaks and writes regularly on a range of topics related to public policy and private investment in Latin America, and is a regular commentator on CNN En Español and a guest lecturer at The Wharton School. Cate is also a member of the Bretton Woods Committee, a nonpartisan network of prominent global citizens, which works to demonstrate the value of international economic cooperation, and a special advisor to the board of AMEXCAP, the Mexican Private Equity and Venture Capital Association.

Prior to joining LAVCA, Cate was Chief of Advocacy for the Commission on Legal Empowerment of the Poor, a United Nations initiative co-chaired by Peruvian economist Hernando de Soto and former US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright, where she directed research projects on business regulation and property rights in Mexico, Brazil, Guatemala, India, Kenya, and Tanzania.

Until 2005, Cate was Executive Director of Programs at The Economist, where she founded The Global Agenda, a high-level panel of economists, policymakers, and business leaders, and chaired conferences on finance, business strategy, and public policy in the US and Latin America. These included annual roundtables with the Presidents of Mexico and Colombia.

Cate began her career as a journalist in Spain. She holds an MPA in International Economic Policy from Columbia University, and received her BA in Latin American studies from St Lawrence University and the University of Madrid.

Ksenija Jovanovic, Director of Business Development and Strategy

Ksenija JovanovicKsenija Jovanovic is Director of Business Development and Strategy at LAVCA. In this capacity she leads business initiatives, new product launches, and shapes LAVCA’s organizational strategy.

Prior to joining LAVCA, Ksenija was most recently a Vice President at Partners Group, a private markets investment manager with over US$30b in assets under management. In this role she created and headed the Latin America investment team with responsibility for all direct, secondary, and fund private equity investments, managing relationships with over 50 GPs. During her eight year tenure at Partners, Ksenija held various roles including both fundraising and investment responsibilities. She was also a voting member of the Global Direct Investment Committee, Emerging Markets Primaries Investment Committee, and U.S. Primaries Investment Committee. During her time, she sourced, structured, negotiated, and executed 50+ private equity investments in the U.S., Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Colombia, Peru, and Chile, across a wide range of industries.

Ksenija holds an MBA and BS with a double major in Finance and International Business from the NYU Leonard Stern School of Business. Ksenija is fluent in Spanish, English, and Serbian with knowledge of German and Portuguese.

Juan Savino, Director of Research

Juan Savino

Juan Savino is LAVCA’s Director of Research, taking on the role in May 2011 to guide the expansion of LAVCA’s research products for its members and the Latin America PE/VC community. Juan has contributed to the organization’s research efforts as an Analyst since June 2009.

Prior to joining LAVCA, Juan was Research Analyst at Bloomberg LP in London, the leading global provider of financial data, news and analytics. Before Bloomberg, Juan was Strategy Analyst at Argentina’s National Investment Development Agency, where he developed sector-focused research to encourage foreign direct investments in the country. During that period, he was also an assistant teacher in the subject of Corporate Finance at Universidad de San Andres. Juan also has experience in the venture capital industry, where he was an Associate at Aconcagua Ventures, a VC firm acquiring minority position in high-growth potential Latin American small and medium enterprises.

Juan holds a MSc in Finance from Universidad del CEMA and a BS in Business Administration from Universidad de San Andres. He is a native Spanish speaker, fluent in English, proficient in Italian, and conversational in Portuguese.

Caitlin Mitchell, Director of Communications

Caitlin Mitchell

Caitlin Mitchell is LAVCA’s Director of Communications. In this role, she is responsible for working with the organization’s executive team to design and implement media relations, strategic partnerships, and communication with key constituents and members.

Prior to joining LAVCA, Caitlin was most recently a Senior Account Manager at Financial PR agency Cognito where she supported clients such as Citigroup, Nomura Research Institute, and IMN to develop global PR and marketing strategies. Caitlin has also previously worked at Prosek Partners working with firms including Franklin Templeton and Jefferies. Throughout her career she has contributed to long-term and short-term media relations campaigns that result in significant print and video coverage in outlets such as The Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, New York Times, CNBC, Barron’s, USA Today, Institutional Investor, Forbes, American Banker, etc.

Caitlin is an experienced media trainer and is a member of the Financial Communications Society New York Chapter. She has a Bachelors in Public Relations with a Minor in Business Marketing from the State University of New York at Fredonia and has completed Securities Industry and Series 7 training courses.

Caitlin is currently studying Spanish and was previously an ESL teacher in Bangkok, Thailand.

Alex Henao, Director of Finance and Member Services

Alex Henao

Alex Henao is responsible for managing LAVCA’s financial and Member services functions.

Alex is currently an MBA candidate in the Investment Management program at the Lubin School of Business in Pace University in New York. He graduated from the Dyson College of Arts and Sciences at Pace University with a degree in History. His professional background includes experience working for publishing and asset management firms.

He speaks English and Spanish and is studying Portuguese.

Eduardo Roman, Associate Director of Research

Eduardo Roman

Eduardo Roman is Associate Director of Research at LAVCA. He contributed to the delivery of quality research products and services to LAVCA’s Members and to the Latin America PE/VC community.

Prior to joining LAVCA, Eduardo was a Senior Research and Analytics Manager at Private Equity International (PEI) where he was a technical leader for the New York, London, and Hong Kong research and analytics teams. In this role, he assisted the firm with the development of best practices, research and analytical capabilities. He was responsible for the quality of PEI’s private markets fundraising and Latin American Limited Partners data. Eduardo also led a number of proprietary rankings including the PEI300, and PERE50.

Before Private Equity International, Eduardo was a Service Manager at Chile’s Entel, the second largest telecommunications operator in the country. Eduardo also gained experience in the financial services industry at UBS’ Wealth Management division in New York, where he collaborated with investment proposals and portfolio evaluations for high net worth individuals.

Eduardo holds an MBA in Finance and Economics from City University of New York – Baruch College and a BS in Electrical Engineering from Universidad de Chile. He is a native Spanish speaker, fluent in English and Portuguese.

Claudia Piza Torres, Manager of Venture Capital Programs

Claudia Piza

Claudia Piza Torres oversees venture capital initiatives for LAVCA, splitting her time between New York and São Paulo. In her first role at the organization, Claudia worked as a Senior Research Associate, supporting all of LAVCA’s research efforts and products.

Prior to joining LAVCA, Claudia worked with Standard & Poor’s Capital IQ, a leading global provider of multi-asset class, real-time financial data, where she performed in-depth private equity and venture capital research for Latin America, with a special focus on Brazil. In this capacity she established the company’s private equity and venture capital database for Latin America. Prior to S&P Capital IQ, Claudia worked with the Embassy of Costa Rica in London. She is Costa Rican and has also lived in São Paulo and Buenos Aires.

Claudia holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations from Universidad de San Andrés. While at San Andrés, she spent a semester in Barcelona studying at Universitat Pompeu Fabra. She is fluent in English, Spanish and Portuguese.

Elisabeth Fabila, Marketing and Communications Associate

Elisabeth Fabila

Elisabeth Fabila is the Marketing and Communications Associate at the Latin American Private Equity & Venture Capital Association. In this role, she contributes to the organization’s digital marketing and media strategies including online campaigns, web applications, and social media activity.

Prior to joining LAVCA, Elisabeth worked as a Digital Media Manager at Sony DADC where she helped migrate Sony Music Entertainment’s digital partners in Latin America to a new digital supply chain. Prior to this position, Elisabeth worked for a number of non-profit organizations and international development projects in Latin America and the Middle East in a marketing and fundraising capacity, including Fundación ALMA, USAID, and ProWorld Service Corps.

Elisabeth holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations and Middle Eastern studies from Columbia University. She also spent a semester at the University of Jordan as student of the Council of International Education Exchange. She is fluent in Spanish, proficient in Modern Standard and Jordanian Colloquial Arabic, and is currently studying Portuguese.

Kaela Duff, Manager of Events and Administration

Kaela Duff

Kaela Duff is the Manager of Events and Administration. At LAVCA, she is responsible for the planning and execution of Member programming, as well as coordinating various aspects of the LAVCA office.

Before joining LAVCA, Kaela lived in Brasilia, Brazil where she took Portuguese language courses and worked at the American School of Brasilia. Prior to that, she worked at the Washington Office on Latin America (WOLA) as the Contact Management and Events intern where she helped maintain and update the organization’s database and also assisted in coordinating a variety of programs. Kaela has also worked for Southern Pulse | Correspondents (SPC) as a Contributing Editor where she collected and delivered original news and analysis on security, politics, energy, and business in Latin America.

Kaela holds a Bachelor’s degree in Public Policy and Latin American Studies with a minor in Spanish from Hobart and William Smith Colleges. She has lived in Spain, Ecuador, Peru, and Brazil and is proficient in Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese.

Ariel Muslera, Senior Advisor

Ariel Muslera

With more than 10 years of experience as an active investor, advisor, and entrepreneur in Argentina and the US, Ariel Muslera is a leading figure in the Venture Capital ecosystem in Latin America. Currently a Senior Advisor on Venture Capital and Entrepreneurship at LAVCA, Ariel originally joined the organization in November 2008 to lead the creation of innovative research products and services for LAVCA’s network fund managers in Latin America. In October 2009, he moved to Buenos Aires to open LAVCA’s first regional office.

Ariel is currently a fellow in the Kauffman Fellows Program, a 2-year program aiming to develop and connect global leaders from the Venture Capital and entrepreneurship industry. From 2011 to early 2014, Ariel was a partner at CAP Ventures, where his main investment focus was technology-related investments, particularly Web 2.0, New and Digital Media, Mobile Apps, and SaaS companies. During his time with CAP, he led five investments and managed seven portfolio companies for the fund. Ariel also has experience as a lead Partner at NetStrategies, a US-based boutique advisory firm where he co-led capital raising and strategy engagements for multiple technology start-up companies in the New Media industry. Before NetStrategies, Ariel was a Manager within the Financial Services Strategy and Transformation Group of Capgemini, a leading global consulting firm.

Ariel holds an MBA with Honors from Columbia Business School and has lived and worked in New York, Sao Paulo and Buenos Aires.

Fabiana Cid de Andrade, Senior Advisor

Fabiana Andrade

Fabiana Cid de Andrade is a Senior Advisor to LAVCA. In this capacity she builds on her previous role as Director of Business Development and Strategy, a position she held for two years. Fabiana is also currently Vice President, Credit Suisse Private Fund Group.

In addition to her role as Director of Business Development and Strategy at LAVCA, Fabiana was Managing Partner of Vendemia Partners. Prior to joining LAVCA, Fabiana was Head of Latin America Regional Distribution at ING Investment Management, where she led the firm’s commercial efforts in the Region including offshore mutual funds and private equity fundraising. In addition, she oversaw the distribution of Latin America-based investment strategies to global markets. She joined ING in 2003 as a Global Management Program Trainee and has held multiple strategy, business development, and distribution roles for ING in Canada, UK, and the US. Fabiana began her career as Product Manager for American Express Latin America and ABN Amro/Real in Brazil.

Fabiana holds an MBA in International Business from Thunderbird School of Global Management and a BA in Marketing from Mackenzie University in Sao Paulo. She has also completed the Private Equity and Venture Capital Program at Harvard Business School and earned a post-graduate degree in International Business from FAAP in Sao Paulo.

Lindsay Walsh, Advisor

Lindsay Walsh

Lindsay Walsh is currently an Advisor for LAVCA, having previously been the Associate Director of Programs, responsible for a variety of activities across the organization, including LAVCA’s three major industry conferences for a number of years. Lindsay resides in Mexico where she manages Investor Relations for Latin America at

Prior to joining LAVCA, she worked for a variety of non-profit organizations both in the United States and abroad. In her capacity with these groups, she executed a market assessment for an import-export company, expanded the international funding capability for an Argentinean arts organization, and designed and managed a foreign affairs summer program for high school students. She has lived in Mexico and Argentina, and has traveled extensively in Latin America.

Lindsay graduated with honors from Wesleyan University with degrees in Latin American Studies and Music. She is fluent in Spanish and conversational in Portuguese.
